ooc; application for luceti
Name: Vanellope Von Schweetz
Fandom: Disney's Wreck-It Ralph
Gender: Female
Age: Somewhere between 9 and 12 years old.
Time Period: Post-movie right after they save Sugar Rush but before Felix and Sgt Calhoun get married.
Wing Color: Mint green
History: Disney wiki
Personality:
Strengths:Vanellope Von Schweetz is a twelve year old character in the racing arcade game "Sugar Rush". Due to a glitch in her programming that causes her to occasionally pixelate in and out of focus for seconds at a time (a case that she calls "pixlexia") Vanellope is considered unplayable and has been since ostracized by the rest of the resident characters in the game. Despite the resulting isolation, Vanellope is convinced that she is meant to be a racer (because she "can feel it in her code") and is determined to participate in the races through absolutely any means necessary.
Vanellope is a tough little girl. Instead of letting years of ostracization get her down, she's managed to find ways of making it on her own, without losing sight of her goal of becoming a real racer. She lives apart from the rest of the game in an unfinished map, even telling Ralph that sometimes thinks herself of a little homeless lady without a trace of remorse. She's been bullied mercilessly by the other racers, but she's picked herself up again and again and still continues to try and get herself into the races.
Vanellope is obnoxious and sharp-tongued, quick-witted and nosy. She gets on Wreck-It Ralph's nerves from the moment they meet, asking him question after question with the knowledge that she was annoying him to high heaven and back. Being that she's got the mentality of a pre-teen, she isn't above finding humor in picking on Ralph by mimicking everything he says, making crude toilet jokes, calling him childish names, casually and frequently pointing out that Ralph reeks (since he lived in the garbage for 30 years.) She is stubborn and in many instances, refuses to listen to reason other than her own. Once she sets her mind to something, she sort of gets blinders on and won't take the time to listen to anyone else. King Candy has said that she wouldn't listen to him even when he tried to explain that she wasn't allowed to take part in the games because it could put the life of Sugar Rush in danger of unplugging. And though that turned out to be a lie, she also refused to listen to Ralph when he tried to talk her out of the race at King Candy's suggestion (though that was mostly because she thought he sold her out to the King, and even then, once she got that thought into her head, she refused to think Ralph could have done anything else.)
But, Vanellope has a sweet center hidden somewhere beneath that hard outer shell. It doesn't take much to make her happy; when she and Ralph work together to create a kart with a working engine, she doesn't even care that the resulting kart is a mess of frosting and sprinkles, all that matters to her is that Ralph has given her the chance to have an actual, working kart. She's never had any friends (as far as she remembers), but once she makes one in Ralph, it's obvious that she treasures that friendship and acceptance far more than she lets on. She accepts him for who he is and sees past his label as a Bad Guy and even tells him that he's a hero to her. And towards the end of the movie, when the game is about to be overrun by Cy-Bugs, she tries to insist that Ralph save himself and leave her behind when her glitch refuses to let her out of the game. And when Ralph is about to die after saving the game, Vanellope is the one to use her newly-mastered glitching to her advantage and ultimately save him.
Weaknesses:physical; Vanellope's glitch allows her to shift in and out of her game's graphics (she and her immediate surroundings become pixely and intangible for a few seconds) and teleport short distances repeatedly (the drawback is that she couldn't control this glitching at first) She's also acrobatic enough to be able to jump from tree branch to tree branch without trouble, hang from branches by her legs and still keep her balance.
mental; Vanellope has learned how to control her glitch to her advantage and use it when she wants. She has also been shown to be smart enough to put together a crude (but working!) kart that operates on pedals - not as fancy as karts with working engines, but still a kart that she made by herself! She was also able to pick up on the basics of driving fairly quickly (but that might be because she really is literally "coded" to race.) She was also able to sweet-talk/convince Ralph into helping her making that kart even when they weren't the best of friends in the beginning.
emotional; Vanellope is a determinator. If there's something she wants, she won't stop until she gets it. When she sees Ralph's shiny gold medal, she takes it and immediately decides to use it as her ticket to the Random Roster Race without taking a moment to listen to him. She's also tough - though the other racers have bullied her she always gets up after the fact and doesn't let it get to her more than it should.
Samplesphysical; Vanellope is a pre-teen girl whose character design was meant to be small - very small. It wouldn't be hard to pick her up or knock her around at all. She has no special abilities to fight or defend herself with other than her glitch, as seen when Sgt Calhoun defends her (and Felix) when the world of Sugar Rush starts getting overrun by the Cy-Bugs.
mental; Vanellope is a kid, okay. Her taunts and insults are childish and sometimes make no sense ("sweet mother of monkey milk!") She thinks like a kid, egocentric to the point where she just doesn't care about anything else but herself and her own goals. She's the center of her own universe.
emotional; Vanellope is stubborn to a fault. When she sets her mind to something, she gets this sort of tunnel vision and will outright refuse to listen to anyone else. This makes having rational explanations to her difficult. She's also not the best in social interaction, though that might be because as far as she and anyone else in the game knows, she's never been accepted in the community ever. This makes the friendship and mutual acceptance between herself and Ralph even more important to her.
First Person:
1. If you could change anything about the world, what would it be and why?
Wait, wait, hold on - do you mean my world, as in the Sugar Rush world made of candy and magical sparkles, or the world includin' the games outside mine over through the Station, ooor the world outside the arcade?
If it's the first, well, I'd turn all the taffy lakes into chocolate ones, just 'cause taffy's REALLY hard t'get outta your clothes. Oh, and Ralph hates chocolate, so there's that~ If it's the second one, I'd make like, this - sorta like this special game, y'know, for all the guys whose original games got unplugged? 'Cuz they've got nowhere to go after that, and no one should be alone! And if it's the third one, I'd just make it so old Mister Litwak doesn't have'ta unplug anyone ever. Dunno how that'd work, though!
2. What is your greatest fear?
Ralph's game is like, really, really old. Older than dirtballs. And... some games just... stop working after a while, y'know? I hope that never happens, 'cause where's he gonna go after that?
3. Describe what you might call a good day.
Well, first Mister Litwak's gotta open the arcade to let all the players in! And you know it's a great day when you get a ton of players to line up for our game! So I guess a good day's when I get to race a couple of times while the arcade's open. After that's when the Stinkbrain and me get to visit each other - but I like it better when he comes to see me 'cause as President of Sugar Rush I've got a totally busy schedule y'know. Plus some of those Nicelanders at his game are pretty weird. Sometimes we get to hang out at other games though, and that's really cool because I never got to visit those other ones ever til the game reset and let me out! But then I gotta head back to Sugar Rush, 'cause there's that random roster race we have everyday before the arcade starts, so we know who gets to race for the day. I race every time, but sometimes I've gotta let the other guys win, y'know. It wouldn't be fair if I'm the only who gets to play everyday just 'cause I'm such an awesome racer.
4. What's your opinion on species unlike your own? Do you treat them the same, or differently? Are they less important than your own kind or on equal standing?
Wait, you mean like the candy people or something? They're okay, I guess. A lot of them don't exactly talk much, but a lot of the others are really funny, like the donut cops! I mean, I guess they were kinda terrible back when they were workin' for King C, but they're all right now. Sometimes they act all weird though, since I'm supposed to be the princess or whatever, and I keep telling them all I want to do is race, you know? It's not like I'm more important or anything!
5. Do you care about other people, or would you rather not deal with them?
People can be really mean sometimes, when they don't understand something and It's kind of hard to deal with 'em like that. But it's fifty times harder to be alone, so I guess I'd rather deal with 'em anyway! It's not like I can't handle whatever they've got to say to my face. Plus, I don't really care about anyone who doesn't care about me, so.
Third Person:
Vanellope sighed to herself, legs swinging idly beneath her from where she sat on a branch, high up on a tree. She could smell the wonderfully sickly sweet scent of sugar rising from the bakery just a few meters down. It was a nice place to be by herself and think without having to talk to any of the weirdos down there.
Once the basics about Luceti had been explained to her, Vanellope found herself more than a little annoyed about the situation she'd found herself in. Seriously, everything had finally turned out perfect back home! She had a kart of her own, she finally got to be a real racer, her glitch was under control and all the kids who played the game totally loved it. And everyone in the kingdom loved her now! Plus, she'd found the best friend in the world. Vanellope sighed. What a seriously lame time for this Luceti thing to happen.
She wasn't too bothered by the place or the people though - when it came right down to it, Luceti was kind of like another arcade game, wasn't it? Except they couldn't see who was playing. And when people died their extra lives only worked after a week (whose stupid idea was that?) And obviously beating those Malnosso buttfaces was the only way they could win and get out of here.
Easier said than done, though. Vanellope wasn't a fighter, she was a racer! (And there wasn't even a proper track around here.) If the Stinkbrain were here he'd know what to do. Or at the very least, he could make her a track like he did back in Diet Cola Mountain. Maybe she could sweet talk someone into doing the same for here! As for a kart...
She swung her body down so that she was hanging from her tree branch by the knees, staring down at the bakery with a gleam in her eyes. Hey, if she could build a kart back home, she could build one here! The bakery prooobably wouldn't miss a few pies, after all.
