first gear ; action
[It was early morning when Vanellope woke up and found herself staring up at a dreary, overcast sky. Huh. That was weird. Cotton candy clouds were always pink, sometimes stripey and vaguely stringy - the ones up there were fluffy and boring and dreary and grey. Even more curiously, she hadn't had to nap outdoors in a long while - she had a castle now, and it was pink and sparkly and covered in sugar crystals...
She turned over and gave a surprised yelp when the world suddenly dropped several feet around her. She glitched on reflex, appearing a few feet down and landed pretty painfully on something hard and brown - a branch, she realized, when she sat up. Was it chocolate? Most trees she liked to climb were peppermint flavored. At least the one she landed on wasn't double striped! It still hurt though - way more than it should, really - was there something painful on her back? She got up, feet planted squarely on the tree branch and rubbed the back of her neck as she craned her head to check on what that ache was -
and stepped back again in surprise when she saw the minty green feathers fluttering behind her - not that there was anything there for her to step on! She'd fallen several feet down the tree before she even thought of glitching down to safety, and so was a flurry of pixels and feathers and candy bits when she was closer to the ground. Hopefully she doesn't crash into anyone! Though to be fair, landing on someone would prooobably be better than hitting the forest floor. Well, better for her, anyway.]
Owww... Talk about waking up on the wrong side of the candybar...
[Later in the afternoon, when she was somewhat settled and finally convinced that she wouldn't be going home for a while, Vanellope can be found in the middle of town! She's mostly hanging around the bakery, hovering by the window and peering inside at all the the sweet treats ( "Why are they all so freakishly tiny!" ) - but at some points can also be found glitching from shelf to shelf at the grocery, item shop or clothes store at all the things that weren't made of candy!]

Whoa! Neat power kid! Some kind of magic? [Gives her a thumbs up because seriously that is damned cool.]
no subject
[She grins up at Marco pointing at herself with a thumb.]
Nah, not magic. Just kinda my special superpower. I know, I know, it's pretty cool, huh?

Hey, what's your name, Mister?
no subject
Marco. First division commander of the Whitebeard pirates. [Offers a handshake.] Nice to meet you lass. [It should be noted that despite being Winter, he's still wearing tropical clothes, sandals, 3/4th length pants, and his shirt isn't buttoned, showing off the tattoo instead.]

Woah, I've never met a pirate before. Do you really got a ship you plunder other ships with? And what's with the thing on your chest, that some kinda secret piratey code? And what kinda stupid name is Whitebeard, how's a name like that gonna strike fear into your pirate enemies?
no subject
We did have a ship the Moby Dick, yes. This is my tattoo, and it's kind of a code. It identifies me as a member of the crew. [And he mad it synonymous with a few other things, but moving on.]
And Whitebeard is Pops' nickname because of his mustache. He didn't need an intimidating name to strike fear into them, because he was the world's strongest and everyone knew and had to acknowledge it. So his name didn't have to scare them, his reputation and strength alone did that for him. His real name was Edward Newgate, but I always called him Pops or Papa, because he was my father, not just my captain.

Well, I used to be a princess, so that makes us kinda the same. Except I decided I didn't want to be a princess, so. [She shrugs.]
But I bet your world's pretty cool, goin' on piratey adventures with your dad all the time. Sounds exciting!
no subject
What happened instead of being a princess?
And aye... it was fun. But this place isn't so bad either. My little brother's here and we still have adventures. Just of a different kind.
no subject
[Giggling still!] And what happened was that I thought it'd be cooler if I were president instead. President Von Schweetz sounds way cooler, y'know.
no subject
President, eh? Why is a President cooler than a Princess?
no subject
And that's 'cause you can't be princess of a democracy, doy.
no subject
So you purposely changed the system of government willingly?
no subject
Yup! Pretty much!
no subject
So did you win the elections? What are your Presidential parameters? It seems like less power and more work, eh.
no subject
And nah, I just made myself president a week ago. It's better than being a princess 'cause then I won't be the only one makin' the rules. [Or at least, that's how a democracy works right...]
no subject
Is that really better? What if you don't like the people you're working with? [He just sounds kind of amused. Really he should stop trolling the kid gosh.]
no subject
And of course it's better! Doesn't matter if I like 'em or not, what matters is that everyone gets heard. [That way, no one has to get ignored like she was, just because a king told them to.]
no subject
Oh? How many people do you have to look after?
no subject
That depends. Do you mean people-people or candy-people?
no subject
What's the difference between people-people and candy-people?
