[It's bright and early in the morning when Vanellope can be seen in the playground outside the school. First period is Writing and there's homework and she forgot, so she's trying to finish hers before the school bell rings. Clearly this means it's okay to be scribbling it down in the journal - she doesn't have any thing else with her, and she can always tear the page out later on!]

[... Yeah. Anyway, feel free to run into her in the school yard or even respond via voice/written! Just remember, she's gotta make it to first period, so you might not even get replies til lunch or something. ]

[Multiple teachers for a one-classroom school means a lot of break time for Layton. Since he's not teaching first period, it's easy enough for him to open up his journal, see Vanellope's entry, and make an educated guess as to what went on there. Sure, they're only sitting a few rooms apart at the moment and she can't respond right away (assuming she's being a diligent student, of course), but he can't resist poking a bit of fun.]

Very few people are able to get their research published at such a young age. Most impressive, Vanellope.

[Obviously, he knows not what the internet is.]

[It does take a while for her to notice that the little comment in neat script was meant for her. She gasps a little bit once she recognizes who it's from!]

Professor Layton! This isn't for your class! [... Oh right, it's written. She hastily scrawls back:]

Thanks! This is for ~~Profesor~~ ~~Proffesso-~~ Professor Sage's class. It's good, right?

Oh yes, I find it quite insightful. 'Sucking face' as you put it is a curious practice even among animals. There are very few who establish mouth-to-mouth contact as a sign of affection.

That just makes it even weirder!

I don't see anything incorrect, per se. They might just be a bit eager to inform. [For what reason, he can't begin to imagine. Not when it comes to a topic like this.]

Well I wish they'd say more! It's like oh that's not right and then they won't say why it isn't right!!!

Oh dear. Try not to let them get under your skin. In the academic community, there will always be someone looking to challenge your findings. The only criticism you need listen to is that which you find constructive.

[A lot of those words fly over her head. Vanellope frowns down at the journal before just shrugging.]

OK. [A then, a long pause before she writes anything more.]

I hope Professor Sage likes it too!

I think she will. It's very you. [And very entertaining, he must say.]

[She grins, because she can only ever take that as a compliment.]

I'm pretty awesome so that's a relief! Thanks Professor! [And here she draws a face with a big grin - :D]

Before I let you go -- you did remember to study for the test later today, didn't you?

[Fun fact: there isn't actually a test later today.]

[A long pause while she: a) stares down at the words in surprise, and b) tries not to panic.

Yeah! I'll do good on it! [She'll ask Anise for help or something, it's cool it's cool.]

[Well... she'll find out in one way or another. Though if she looks closely at the camera caps, she might notice that it looks suspiciously like he's chuckling at her.]
